Aimee Allen

Montana Aimee developed her appreciation for many types of music, singing in clubs, from Punk to Hip Hop. At first glance, Aimee Allen piques curiosity with a face resembling a perfect blend of Angelina Jolie and Britney Spears, but performs pounding Hip Hop beats, crushing guitars, and Ani-like lyrics delivered with the raw emotion of Kurt Cobain and the raspy wail of Janis Joplin. Aimee’s canceled Elektra release in 2002, “I’d Start a Revolution, if I Could Get Up in the Morning,” featured Spider as co-writer of five songs and producer of four. Other producers include Mark Ronson and Don Gilmore.

I LOVE Aimee Allen. This unofficial album (it was never released) has got to be one of my favourites. It’s this odd mashup of rock, rap and hiphop. “I’m more man than you’ll ever be.”

Marion Raven- Here I Am

Marion Elise Ravn (artist name: Marion Raven) is a Norwegian singer and musician. She was born on May 25, 1984 in Lørenskog, a suburb outside Oslo, Norway. She was formerly part of the duo M2M, along with Marit Larsen. After M2M broke up in September of 2002, Marion was offered a million dollar recording contract with Atlantic Records. Raven’s first solo album Here I Am was released in the spring of 2005. The solo effort displayed a more mature rock songbird that veered away from the bubblegum pop image cultivated by Atlantic Records for M2M. ‘Here I Am’ sees Marion collaborating with veteran producers Max Martin and Rami, Jimmy Harry, and collaborations with Nikki Sixx from Mötley Crüe for the song “Heads Will Roll” and rock band Everclear on the song “At The End of the Day”. The album mostly chronicles Marion’s heartbreak and finding her true identity in an ever changing pop landscape.

Marion Raven’s first album, Here I Am is the first version of Set Me Free. It’s hard to find and it’s my favourite version. She cut a lot of my favourite tracks for Set Me Free, for I guess her raunchier songs. This version had more depth, I think. “End of Me” and “Get Me Out Of Here” were my favourites. If you already have Set Me Free, then I’d suggest taking the exclusive tracks link, if you don’t want repeats. However, the full album of Here I Am is a little different overall. Anyways, here you go.

Schoolyard Heroes

Sometimes, fierce entities come in unexpected packages. Right out of high school, Seattle, Washington’s Schoolyard Heroes – brash dealers of angular riffs with thematic bents that’d make Issac Asimov proud – launched their Priest construction-meets-Misfits lyricis attack on prog punk at all-ages venues throughout the ever-vibrant Pacific Northwest scene in 2003 before releasing that year’s The Funeral Sciences full-length on The Control Group label.

There are a lot of things you can say about the horror punk band Schoolyard heroes.  Accused of spreading “devil’s music”—I’d say they are called horror punk for a reason rather than being accused of satanic- they definitely have..interesting lyrics. Poetic in a gruesome manner.  (You’re shaking like a first time skin flick/my soul goes to the highest bidder)  Not everyone’s cup of tea. But one of my favourite bands. And yes, I am aware of my erratic taste in music.

SHE: “If I’m not mistaken, I’ve torn your heart out three times now.”
HE: “It’s true, my dear. You tore me up like a boy made of paper.”
TOGETHER: “It was the right thing to do at the time!”

The Spill Canvas

The Spill Canvas, imo is an amazing band. I don’t know if this is just because I’ve listened to them for years, but I stand by their potential. Lyrically they surpass most bands with with catchy metaphors (“Oh the chemistry between us could destroy this place.”) A lot of these sort of bands that  I listened to during my teenage years I only pop out occassionally for nostalgia’s sake, but this is one band I just listen to because they’re just that good. I’m offering up a few albums:

Sunsets & Car Crashes

One Fell Swoop

Go For The Jugular

Denial Feels So Good

Porcelain and the tramps

industrial, female vocalists, electronic, rock

Porcelain and the Tramps is an industrial rock band from Detroit, Michigan, but working from LA, California. Singer/songwriter, Alaina Beaton is the only official member of the band, though she is currently in the studio with John Lowery (more commonly known as John 5 – the current guitarist for industrial band Rob Zombie, and former guitarist for rock group Marilyn Manson), producers Lester Mendez and Bobby Huff, among others.

Thus far the band has not released any recorded material, other than a number of songs that are featured on the band’s numerous social networking sites, such as their myspace. It is expected that these songs will form the backbone of the album that is currently being worked on. Cited influences include Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, A Perfect Circle, Tori Amos, Pantera, Led Zeppelin, Guns N’ Roses, Motley Crue, Nirvana and Hole.

Jason Mraz- The Dynamo Of Volition

singer-songwriter, acoustic, pop, rock, alternative

A singer-songwriter originally from Mechanicsville, Virginia, USA, Mraz set out for the big city, attending a performing arts college in New York City. Realizing the competitive nature of the musical theater world he paired his innate desire to perform his own material, Mraz picked the guitar at age 18 and began panhandling on the streets of NYC. Rumor has it that Mraz ran into a ‘psychic’ in central park who told him something along the lines of “remember to follow your dreams”.

Just a track from his new album. =)
