fuck your “fml” rants. (mixtape)

fuck your “fml”

hey, you there. yeah, you, the one that complains about your life all day long. i am so sick of it. you are bringing me down. your life could be so much worse. appreciate what you have. stop wallowing in self pity. look on the brighter side. there’s always a brighter side. you’ve had some hard times? that’s okay, you learned something. you got knocked down, now get back up again.

i made this because i am very tired of hearing people go “fuck my life,” when their lives are not that bad (or often self-inflicted). no one ever seems to look at the positive side and seems to swim in their own selfishness. all these songs are uplifting, about not letting life get you down. the world is at your feet, blah, blah. because you know what? it is. some of the songs only have a few lines that apply, but you get the point i’m sure. the first part is more alternative and the second is more pop.   comment if taking please! :)
GET PART I

  1. switchfoot – “meant to live”. we were mean to live for so much more. have we lost ourselves?
  2. chumbawumba – “tubthumping”. i get knocked down but i get back up again. you’re never gonna keep me down. he sings the songs that remind him of the good times.
  3. kelly clarkson – “whyyawannabringmedown”. why must you keep me underground? so tell me, why you wanna bring me down? your transmission is on the negative, you’re on a losing streak. what’s with your hostility?
  4. barlowgirl – “one more round”. round one wasn’t what i thought it would be. round two i’m struggling to breathe. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 times I wondered why I stepped inside this ring. i may be knocked down and bruised but not for the count.  so take me one more round, i’ll just keep fighting.  one more round, i’ll come out swinging.
  5. superchic[k] – “we live”. what do we do then, with tragedy around the bend? we live, we love. we forgive, and we never give up. life is such a gift. what would it take for the clouds to break, for us to realize each day is a gift somehow, someway?
  6. lenka – “bring me down”. i won’t let this burden bring me down. i’m over being lied to. i want something better.
  7. sleater-kinney – “rollercoaster”. i know that some of our days are bitter. stay with me honey and things could be better
  8. mandy moore -”pocket philosopher”. i turned the corner, i was feeling good. be whoever you wanna be, see whatever you wanna see.
  9. fiona apple – “extraordinary machine”. i can’t help it, the road just rolls out behind me, be kind to me, or treat me mean. i’ll make the most of it, i’m an extraordinary machine. i mean to prove, i mean to move in my own way, and say, i’ve been getting along for long before you came into the play
  10. sia – “don’t bring me down”. don’t bring me down, i beg of you. i won’t let you. and i’m addicted to the joy that the little things, those little things they bring.
  11. dresden dolls – “half jack”. i’m so high not even you and all your love could bring me down. on 83rd he never found the magic words to change this fact.
  12. jack’s mannequin – “swim”. you gotta swim. swim for your life. swim for the music that saves you, when you’re not so sure you’ll survive. and swim when it hurts. you haven’t come this far to fall of the earth. i swim for brighter days despite the absense of sun, choking on salt water. i’m not giving in.
    I swim
  13. muse – “feeling good”. sun in the sky and you know how i feel. it’s a new dawn . its a new day, its a new life for me. and i’m feeling good.

The Distillers

The Distillers were a punk rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, United States in 1998. They released their first two albums on Hellcat Records/Epitaph Records before moving to Sire, part of the Warner Music Group. The Distillers were originally formed by Australian-born Brody Dalle (Spinnerette’s lead singer). As lead singer she adopted a signature harsh singing voice. Although there were constant line-up changes, Brody consistently played the guitar, sang, and wrote or co-wrote nearly every song on all the band’s albums. Tony Bradley also played guitar and Ryan Sinn played bass.

Coral Fang was the only album of theirs I really liked, but goddamn did I like this album. There’s something so odd about Brody’s weird raspy voice.

Aimee Allen

Montana Aimee developed her appreciation for many types of music, singing in clubs, from Punk to Hip Hop. At first glance, Aimee Allen piques curiosity with a face resembling a perfect blend of Angelina Jolie and Britney Spears, but performs pounding Hip Hop beats, crushing guitars, and Ani-like lyrics delivered with the raw emotion of Kurt Cobain and the raspy wail of Janis Joplin. Aimee’s canceled Elektra release in 2002, “I’d Start a Revolution, if I Could Get Up in the Morning,” featured Spider as co-writer of five songs and producer of four. Other producers include Mark Ronson and Don Gilmore.

I LOVE Aimee Allen. This unofficial album (it was never released) has got to be one of my favourites. It’s this odd mashup of rock, rap and hiphop. “I’m more man than you’ll ever be.”

Garbage [Nostalgia]

Garbage is a Scottish-US rock group formed in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1994. The band consists of Duke Erikson, Shirley Manson (former lead vocalist of Angelfish), Steve Marker, and Butch Vig (who had made his name as a producer, including Nirvana’s album, Nevermind).  Garbage released a string of increasingly successful singles in 1995–1996, culminating in the hit Stupid Girl. Their debut album, Garbage, was an unexpected smash, selling over 4 million copies and reaching double platinum status in the UK, USA and Australia. Garbage spent two years working on their follow-up album Version 2.0 which topped the charts in the UK and hit #13 in the US. It was nominated for two Grammy Awards, Album of the Year and Best Rock Album. In 1999, they performed the theme song to the James Bond movie The World Is Not Enough. That year, they also contributed the song When I Grow Up to the Adam Sandler movie Big Daddy.

Billie Piper

Billie Piper became the youngest ever female to get a UK #1 at age 15 with her first hit single “Because We Want To.” Her music career continued to flourish and she racked up 2 hit albums (Honey to the Bee and Walk of Life, respectively) before leaving the music scene and going back to her first love, acting. She is possibly best known as Rose Tyler in Doctor Who. She has won many awards for her acting and has recently starred in the ITV Drama Secret Diary of a Call Girl, as a London escort. She is set to return in at least 3 episodes of Season 4 of Doctor Who in 2008.

Marion Raven- Here I Am

Marion Elise Ravn (artist name: Marion Raven) is a Norwegian singer and musician. She was born on May 25, 1984 in Lørenskog, a suburb outside Oslo, Norway. She was formerly part of the duo M2M, along with Marit Larsen. After M2M broke up in September of 2002, Marion was offered a million dollar recording contract with Atlantic Records. Raven’s first solo album Here I Am was released in the spring of 2005. The solo effort displayed a more mature rock songbird that veered away from the bubblegum pop image cultivated by Atlantic Records for M2M. ‘Here I Am’ sees Marion collaborating with veteran producers Max Martin and Rami, Jimmy Harry, and collaborations with Nikki Sixx from Mötley Crüe for the song “Heads Will Roll” and rock band Everclear on the song “At The End of the Day”. The album mostly chronicles Marion’s heartbreak and finding her true identity in an ever changing pop landscape.

Marion Raven’s first album, Here I Am is the first version of Set Me Free. It’s hard to find and it’s my favourite version. She cut a lot of my favourite tracks for Set Me Free, for I guess her raunchier songs. This version had more depth, I think. “End of Me” and “Get Me Out Of Here” were my favourites. If you already have Set Me Free, then I’d suggest taking the exclusive tracks link, if you don’t want repeats. However, the full album of Here I Am is a little different overall. Anyways, here you go.

M2M (Nostalgia posts)

M2M was the name of a Norwegian pop music duo comprised of two teenage girls – Marion Raven and Marit Larsen – who had Atlantic Records and Warner Music as their labels. The duo produced 2 albums, Shades of Purple and The Big Room, and a “Greatest Hits” release (after M2M disbanded, under decision of their record label)

The girls had known each other since they were five, before forming the group in the mid-1990s. They debuted with their first single, “Don’t Say You Love Me,” in 1999. The song was featured on the soundtrack of Pokémon: The First Movie – Mewtwo Strikes Back. It was also the lead single off their debut album, Shades of Purple, released in 2000. They later released four more singles off the album: “Mirror Mirror,”“The Day You Went Away,”“Pretty Boy,” and “Everything You Do.” The album debuted at number 1 in Norway and several Asian countries and top 40 in most others. It also reached the number 1 position on the “Billboard Heatseakers” chart for developing artists. The album went on to sell over 2 million copies worldwide.

In 2002, the girls returned with a more mature, less pop-oriented sound, in their second album, The Big Room. In just two years, their voices had changed, especially Marion’s. Their first single off the album would be “Everything,” followed by,”What You Do About Me.”

The best of M2M

Shades of purple

The Big Room

They were my absolute favourite when I was 11 years old. I still know all the words to “Mirror Mirror.” Shades of Purple doesn’t have a track listing, so they’ll have to be tagged. The “Best Of” album is also incorrectly tagged, sigh. Best I could find! Anyways, enjoy.

Carmen Reece

“My music makes you want to move but also moves you emotionally,” says singer-songwriter-pianist Carmen Reece.” This ability to connect on a gut level with her listeners – whether she’s busting out a club bumper like “Right Here” or unwrapping a slow-burn piano ballad like “Long Goodbye” – is something she’s always admired in her heroes, powerhouse vocalists she calls “the divas.”
